wawawoowow!

NXNE said and done

me and my neighbour jeff bro'd down hard at NXNE festival in toronto and probably got the most out of it we could of. We arrived wednesday night for Eagles Of Death Metal to open our nxne festivities, they ruled beyond belief, and I respect them as rocknroll sunofabitches even more so than i did prior. Aside from scrambling to find a place to stay the first couple of nights, we had a pretty comfortable system by Friday night, staying at my friends up in bayview village. But yeah, i cant really sum up nxne at the moment, it was just all too overwhelming. so ill just make a list..

NXNE highlights included:
-WARPAINT: an all female ambient stoner rock four piece who melted my face. me and jeff went behind the horseshoe tavern to pee and ended up meeting these (unbelievably good looking) girls who were just about to go on. we went, watched, and didnt want it to end.
-LITTLE GIRLS: we thought we could catch the Mockingbird Wish Me Luck set at the bovine, but were a sliver too late, so we ended hoping on a bus to the drake hotel, went downstairs and caught this young blitzed out post punk band ownnnnnnn their set. was happy to have landed in on that one.
- ATTACK IN BLACK: aside from hanging out with Shad in the lineup outside, AIB ruled as always. They played these weird sorta mashups of new/older material and im not sure if it went over everyones head or not, but it was cool.
- IGGY AND THE STOOGES: mike-fukn-watt
- BEST COAST/SOFT PACK: jeff was getting me super high the whole week and when we went to this show, best coast made vivian girls sound like s club seven. on that note, i was even so high, that when watching the soft pack, i caught myself making all the punk rock faces the guitarist was making and thought "wow..."

all in all, good trip. stoked i got my nxne wristband for free from 94.9 CHRW. listen to our radio show every thursday afternoon from 3:30-6pm!!!

dont look back

yeah so that mini-tour i did with H&A couldnt have been any funner. the first couple shows were pretty much an example of a band still "working out the kinks", but no regrets. by the time we played london everything was tight, and by the time we had played windsor it was unreal. not to gush, but i luh dat shit hard. windsor was hands down good times. me and jordan drank absinthe ($13.50/shot) and went to CHEETAHS, this crazy strip club across the street from the venue. i dont want to brag about being a dude-ouchebag, but it was voted as canadas #1 club by playboy... that being said, we stayed for one beer and just talked about how crazy/fuckedup these girls lives were. who has the time to practice upside down splits? anyway, we all had a really great time im sure. i definately dont want it to stop.
that being said againnnnnnnn:
i just joined this really mint london band called SINGLE MOTHERS last week and played a show with them at the bovine sex club on friday night, it was the most unreal thing to ever happen. i think i got too drunk to focus on having fun and playing the right bass lines, but it was still a good show. we trashed the stage afterwards. and it was funny bc all the bands were playin the same gear, so we had to set it all back up again, haha. the ex-cain and abel'ers the Teenage Kicks, were way too good and should prlly expect big things from them. but it seems as though im going to be a fulltime single mother, and it couldnt be any better. we have like a dozen shows booked over the next few weeks and are still booking hard for the summer.
pressure from the mom is harder than ever for getting a "real job", but im harder than ever for writing rocknroll tunes.
never gunna get real.

currently listening too ... THRUSH HERMIT, seen them awhile back with justis, ross, and sheldon on their reunion tour. joel plaskett is a kanadian king.

decisions

summers here, ive been out tanning already on the roof with my neighbour jeff. its foolish i know, but it was hilarious to have done it.
anyway, ive compiled a short list of things i need followed by a list of things i want. most of which has to do with personal finance. although (as in my previous post) i have this intrinsic feeling that i have to go about getting most of this in some other way than working at tim hortons or selling knives door to door...

NEEDS
- a job
- guitar setups
- rent money
- bill money
- lunch (atm)
- an education

WANTS
- rent money
- bill money
- lunch money (atm)
- sweet pieces i hid at the thrift store i went to yesturday
- a job (somewhere amazing)

- oh yeah and one of these?...

ANYWAY, ive decided not too go about finding a summer job here in london because i am going on this (not really much of a tour) TOUR WITH MY BAND, starting this friday. We just finished recording a 3 song EP soon to be released on tape. then im hitting the road with my homies justis and brandon, as well as with the other guys in all that is HUNTERS AND ANGLERS from wellend, on. should be sweeet times, ive been rly looking forward to this. iHavnt played some decent shows with a band since like, highschool years ago. Plus im just looking forward to meeting people and hanging out. I wish there was a paid position that required me to hang out, read blogs, and drink beer. idk.

currently listening to . . . (a band from Sudbury <3) KILLING QUEENS, whom are also on tour this month throughout Ontario.

still dont know what i want to do with my life

but doing this would kick ass on so many levels...

So yeah, schools done. i hope noone close to my mother will read this, but school sucks. i want to make a living doing other things that dont involve going to college. i have been talking to a few friends of mine (who are also jet set on doing other things aside from school) about planning to do something awesome as a means of "getting by". I suggested forming and elite team of thievery in the vein of the Oceans boys, having expensive haircuts and wear fine suits. Cept we will steal things that will one day be valuable; like cassette tape collections, guitars, and college student art. Wearing handmade clothing from goodwill garments in the meantime...
IF THAT DOESNT WORK OUT - i want to start a magazine of some sort, and maybe garner enough attention to make a living doing what im doing; that being WHAT I WANT. Regardless, im 19, still dont feel like being formally educated, and would rather listen to and play music all day. Im sorry world.
but,
GET INTO IT.

currently listening too . . . Dinosaur Jr - Farm

FUR CEREAL

This isnt an abstract wanna be lit entry. im going to start just putting neato things on the blog (itll give me something to do) because ive been finding it so hard to transpose poems and short stories onto my computer. (the editing process kicks my ass, and i never get anything done, i end up hating myself trying to hackjobedit my own stuff) So im just going to start putting up coherent thoughts and things that i think are sweet. dont get me wrong, lots of weird shit is still in the oven. just not at the moment.

My friend Adam always seems to be on the cusp of really neat things and he showed me this band really, really late last night. To say the least, i was up until 3am listening to the Guelph, ON band, MEMORYHOUSE, and their version of Grizzly Bear's "Foreground" and a youngmillion remix version of their song "To The Lighthouse". ITS (WAY TOO) GOOD and reminds of that summery sunshine feeling i got when listening to Miracle Fortress's - Five Roses. I thought it funny that when Adam mentioned they had just played a really nu show in Toronto last week, they also had mad Pitchfork hype prior. It reminded me of this one time many moons ago when i had told him i went and seen John Prine. He replied with something like "he's not on pfork . . ." or something like that. So i just thought that was funny. Regardless, Adam has always been able to drop some knowledge on me for years, so hopefully im not killing his own hype for this band by trying to hype them up. (i went absolutely apeshit last night sending the links to people) Who knows, maybe youll enjoy as much as i did.

MEMORYHOUSE ON MYSPACE

Anyway, college sucks. I have thousands of words to write in the next few days; though i have no real plan on how im going to do that. Friday im hopefully jamming with some friends then hitting up the FREE Bruce Peninsula show @ UWO's The Wave. Saturday i trek to
Toronto and look for exciting things to do (like find a Thrush Hermit or Black Lips ticket) then sunday? hopefully jam again.

Also, my new puppy is a baby. And like all babies, i have no social life except for cleaning up shit and (psychological) stretch marks.
